About Right Dog Food

Right Dog Food helps you find a food your dog can actually eat. We collect ingredient lists, guaranteed analyses, calorie statements and AAFCO statements from manufacturers, check them, and turn them into tools you can use: a food finder that understands hidden allergens, a feeding calculator that uses your bag’s real calories, side-by-side comparisons and a label checker.

Why we built it

Most dog food advice online is a ranked list written once and rarely updated. It tells you which foods someone liked, not which foods fit your dog. If your dog has to avoid chicken, needs to lose weight, or is a large-breed puppy, you need data: what’s in each food, how many calories it has, and whether it’s been recalled.

That data exists. It’s printed on every bag and published on manufacturer websites. It’s just scattered, inconsistent and hard to compare. We collect it in one place, in one format, with a date and a source on every number.

What we do

• Record what manufacturers publish, in full and in label order. See our methodology.
• Match ingredients to allergen groups, including hidden sources, so excluding chicken also excludes chicken fat and poultry meal.
• Show our sources and check dates on every product, so you can verify anything we say.
• Explain labels in plain English in our guides.

What we don’t do

• We don’t sell dog food.
• We don’t accept payment from brands to be listed, ranked or reviewed.
• We don’t call foods “safe” or “unsafe” for your dog. We describe what’s in them. Decisions about your dog’s health belong with you and your vet.
